Artist Statement
I am constantly taking pictures. As a filmmaker, one must train his sense of composition, mise en scene, and sense of light. Photography is a perfect tool for this. I discovered that by using my phone to take pictures at night with a backlight and editing in photoshop I could make the photos look more like painting with touches of post-impressionism and naive art.
Gradually, the works began to move towards abstraction, and it completely captivated me. I treated my work as if it was made by someone else and I liked the photos. There was nothing rational or intellectual about this process. There was a continuous buzz, unpredictability, excitement, and passion. This was to some extent a step backward into the primitive culture and children’s drawings, and perhaps even further into the indivisible most basic forms of our visual world: line and color.
